How Do E-Edition Renewals Work

Edited

Overview

E-Edition renewals allow subscribers to continue their digital access by extending their subscription plans automatically or manually. This system manages renewal notices and payment processing for different types of subscribers based on their plan status.

Use this feature to help subscribers maintain uninterrupted access to digital content and to streamline the renewal process for both automatic and manual subscription management.

Prerequisites: Subscribers must have an active e-Edition account. Note that renewal methods vary depending on whether the subscriber has a specific plan or is marked as "N/A" (typically print subscribers with complimentary digital access).

Instructions

Understanding Subscription Plans

All e-Edition users are registered under specific subscription plans such as:

  • 1 year print/digital

  • 3 months e-Edition only

  • Other custom plans

Exception: Current print subscribers who register for e-Edition access have their plan marked as "N/A" since they didn't purchase through the paywall.

Automatic Renewal Process

  1. Subscribers with specific plans (NOT marked "N/A") receive automated renewal notices from the eType system

  2. Subscribers click the link in the renewal email

  3. They complete the online renewal process directly through the system

Manual Renewal for Print Subscribers

Subscribers with plans marked "N/A" must renew directly with your publication, not through the eType system.

Online Self-Service Renewal

Subscribers can also renew by logging into their accounts:

  1. Access the login page

    • Go to your publication's website

    • Click "Subscriber Login"

  2. Sign in

    • Enter subscriber credentials

    • Click "Sign On"

  3. Find renewal option

    • Look under the "Current Edition" button

    • Find the link announcing subscription expiration or near-expiration

  4. Complete renewal

    • Click the expiration link

    • Select a new plan

    • Follow payment prompts to complete renewal

    • Account updates automatically

Manual Subscription Updates

If a subscriber renews directly with your publication, you must manually update their expiration date in the eType system. (See How Do I Edit the Expiration Date for a Subscriber's Account.)

FAQs

Q: Why don't some subscribers receive automated renewal notices?

A: Subscribers with plans marked "N/A" (typically print subscribers with complimentary digital access) don't receive automated notices and must renew directly with the publication.

Q: What happens if a subscriber renews directly with us instead of online?

A: You'll need to manually update their subscription expiration date in the eType system to reflect the new renewal period.

Q: Can subscribers renew before their subscription expires?

A: Yes, subscribers can log into their accounts and renew early if they see the expiration notice link under the "Current Edition" button.

Q: What if a subscriber can't find the renewal link in their account?

A: The renewal link only appears when a subscription is expired or about to expire. If they don't see it, their subscription may not be near expiration, or they may have a plan marked "N/A" requiring direct renewal with your publication.
